Matariki Celebration

Our Matariki celebration was a great success! Thank you all for coming along and joining in our Matariki activities and enjoying our school-made soups.

Matariki Soup Making

As part of our Matariki celebration we made delicious vegetable soup in our trusty crock pot. The children peeled and chopped vegetables to add to the soup along with soup mix and water. We discovered that there was alphabet pasta in the soup mix - how exciting! The hardest part of it all was the long wait as it cooked.

Alexander's Poroporoaki

Room 1 and Room 1 Extension had a fantastic time attending Alexander's Poroporoaki on Friday. We can't wait for him to join us!

Toy Designers

Over the last few weeks we have been looking at toys from the past and present. We have looked at how people have tried to improve and change toy designs. Today we become toy designers and worked with partners to design our own games and toys. We had to think of how the game would be played and what the rules would be.

Making our own spinning tops

Last week in Room 1 and Room 1 Extension we made our own spinning tops with toothpicks and bottle tops. This was a great activity following our Pataka visit where we had an opportunity to play with wooden spinning tops from the past.

First, we used a hammer and nail to make a hole in the bottle top.

After we made the hole, we stuck a toothpick through.

Next, we used match sticks to carefully decorate our spinning tops with paint.
